2021 Vintage Report — Adelaide Hills

The 2021 vintage was an exceptional season in the Adelaide Hills, defined by a long, cool and remarkably even growing period. A warm spring encouraged healthy canopy development and good fruit set, followed by the coolest summer experienced in the region for a decade. With no significant heatwaves and timely rainfall in late January and early February, the vines maintained excellent condition as the fruit moved through veraison.

Cool temperatures during the final stages of ripening extended the season, allowing Shiraz to develop flavour, colour and tannin maturity gradually while retaining its natural acidity and aromatic freshness. Disease pressure remained low, creating ideal conditions for fruit of purity, balance and regional character.

Estate-grown and sourced entirely from our single vineyard in Balhannah, this 2021 Shiraz captures the elegance and savoury complexity of cool-climate Adelaide Hills Shiraz.

Lifted aromas of blackberry, blueberry and ripe plum are layered with violet, black pepper and gentle sweet spice. The palate is composed and finely structured, combining generous dark fruit with fresh acidity and fine, polished tannins. Subtle French oak contributes notes of cedar and spice without overshadowing the purity of the fruit.

The extended growing season has produced a wine with depth but not heaviness—supple, balanced and already approachable, with the structure to continue developing gracefully in bottle.
