2018 Adelaide Hills Shiraz
2018 Adelaide Hills Shiraz
Variety: 100% Shiraz
Vintage Conditions: 2018 was a fantastic year for the Adelaide Hills region with high natural acidities and excellent varietal character. After a cold, wet winter, spring weather conditions were mild and unstable but resulted in no lasting damage to vines. A long, dry growing season through to vintage provided ideal ripening conditions resulting in wines with good tannin, balanced acid and depth in flavour.
Vinification: Fermented in open fermenters, a portion of the wine was pressed off skins at 2 Baumé to finish ferment in new oak, whilst the remainder was pressed upon dryness. The wine was matured in a mix of new and second fill French oak barrels for 22 months prior to bottling.
Tasting Notes:
Colour: Deep crimson red.
Aroma: Red fruits, Satsuma plum and notes of pepper and spice.
Palate: A powerful, yet smooth wine shows layers of fruit framed by well integrated oak. Blackberry, sweet savoury and violet notes contribute to the subtle textured wine. A firm yet balanced tannin structure gives it an excellent persistence of flavour and great depth.
