2017 Speakeasy Pinot Noir

SPEAKEASY Pinot Noir is a stylish, elegant example of a full flavoured, cool climate wine showing the true expression of the Adelaide Hills region.

Variety: 100% Pinot Noir

Vintage Conditions: The 2017 Adelaide Hills vintage was characterised by the highest rainfall in 24 years during 2016. Moist soils meant flower development was optimal but wet conditions produced lighter than average fruit set. Hot and dry weather conditions during fruit ripening favoured full development of colour and flavour over the long, dry summer.

Vinification: The must was cold-soaked for 4 days before being fermented with two Burgundian yeast varieties. The wine is then transferred to 20% new and 80% second-fill French barriques, hogsheads and puncheons, where it is aged for 12 months.

Tasting Notes:

Colour: Rich burgundy, with plum-purple and soft cherry red hues.

Aroma: Beginning with a hint of spice, the nose evolves to encompass impressions of forest floor and truffle oil.

Palate: Up-front juicy red fruit gives way to gentle tannins with a hint of stalkiness, culminating in a velvety mouthfeel with a bright, supporting acid structure.
