2017 Speakeasy Shiraz

SPEAKEASY Shiraz is a stylish, elegant example of a full flavoured, cool climate wine showing the true expression of the Adelaide Hills region.

Variety: 100% Shiraz

Vintage Conditions: The 2017 Adelaide Hills vintage was characterised by the highest rainfall in 24 years during 2016. Moist soils meant flower development was optimal but wet conditions produced lighter than average fruit set. Hot and dry weather conditions during fruit ripening favoured full development of colour and flavour over the long, dry summer.

Vinification: The must was cold-soaked for 5 days before being fermented with two Rhone yeast varieties. The wine was then transferred to 40% new and 60% second-fill French barriques, hogsheads and puncheons, where it was aged for 16 months prior to assemblage and bottling.

Tasting Notes:

Colour: Dark red ruby, with soft red hues.

Aroma: Bright fresh red fruits with satsuma plum and notes of pepper and spice.

Palate: Smooth and generous layered with savoury characters supported by fine tannins and subtle French oak. A lively acid structure binds these components into a wine that exudes length, fruit generosity and elegance.
